Aldo and Van Eyck

"If people turn to look at you on the streets, it means you're not well dressed."-
famous words by one of my great examples: the late Beau Brummel. Google that shit everybody! Lately I've been thinking about his words a lot. Is it true that we ought to blend in with the crowd, in order to be a real dandy? Is it not gentleman-like to stand out?

One love in twenty-fourteen.

After all the flasbacks on 2013, I came to the conclusion that I prefer to look forwards, instead of backwards. That's why I'm writing this piece on the first of January and not in December.
I'm writing this piece as the first blogpost of 2014 after having an amazing night.  After I woke up I watched the Viennese New-Year's-concert. One of my favorite traditions that has been around  in my family for three generations.

Fireman by day, Ballet-dancer by night

In 1880 Vincent van Gogh decided he wanted to be an artist...

It's just as simple as that. One doesn't have to become an artist, learn about art or produce art. One can just be an artist. We can wake up one day, wondering what to do. We decide to shift our life in a whole new direction. If the world was just black and white, we could do something refreshing and different every single day, just by deciding we wanted it to be that way...

Graduation outfit No.2

Today's post is a bit special. It's landmark. A milestone in my life. It's both an end a beginning.

The happening the 18th birthday

March 27, 2013, an important date in my life, because today I'm turning eighteen. I'm officially an adult now. That means I'll have to start acting very different now. Time for flannel suits, ties to the office and maybe I should start wearing a hat? As I wrote last year my family has a long tradition when it comes to birthday outfits, so here's what I'm wearing on this very special day.

Rejections

This weekend was my last day at the Academy of arts. I've been following a preparatory course down there for the past six months and Saturday I had an audition at the department of Fashion Design. This is the main raison why I wasn't able to post anything last week. But don't be afraid I did wear seven new unique outfits of course. Unfortunately I did not live up to their standards and I didn't got accepted. Obviously it made me question my talent and whether I should have a career in the fashion industry (as a designer) or not.
(Warning! This piece is written mainly for myself to write my thoughts down. It might be considered relatively boring for any other readers)

The ultimate wardrobe challenge.

First of all, let me start by wishing you all the best for 2013. I hope you all had an amazing new-year's eve. I certainly had the time of my life. 2013 is going to be a very special year. There are a lot of changes ahead of me and even more decisions to be made. Who knows were I might be around this time next year? To add consistency to this year, and most off all, to test my creativity I created myself a challenge. The biggest adventure in the history of menswear:
This year, I am going to wear a different outfit every day.

365 days. 365 different looks.

The Lovely Looks on Life

I've been thinking a lot lately. I actually blame the picture above. I love it. I'm so passionate about it. It is the prettiest picture I've ever seen (so far) and It always get's my thoughts going. Dreaming. Thinking.
About the future, about life and about "The big L." When you would have asked me last year what I was going to do with my future I would've been quite certain. But as my future is coming closer and closer, my plans are becoming vaguer and vaguer. Why is it that we are all looking forward to take that next step in life, why is it that we are all so exited about doing something new? What's up with the: "The world is moving, you've got to move with it"-spirit. Am I the only one who is a bit afraid of "change"?

Mastering the art of Blogging

I just finished watching the movie Julie and Julia. The movie that  encouraged me to do something with my high-school years and inspired me to start my own blog. Now, more than a year since I started my blog, I still have absolutely no clue what to do with all this.
I wanted to work on my future. I know it's quite silly of my to think that I would be discovered by my little tiny blog on fashion. I am one of the KAZILLION bloggers out there and I have no marketing plan or influential connections whatsoever. Besides, Blogging is SOOO last decade.
But one can always dream, right?

FASHION'S NIGHT OUT

Last Thursday was the first edition of Dutch Vogue's Fashion's night out. And as a lover of everything-fashionable, I saw it as my duty to attend the party. The initiative of creating an event just to celebrate fashion is such a great idea. I had a great time...

SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!

Schoool's out! Finally, today I received my grades for the tests I made last test-week. Almost every grade was good enough. Time to celebrate our freedom and live the summer, (as I already secretly did these past two days) This was the best year so far and as I'm getting very emotional while looking back, I'm also very very curious about the future that's ahead of us...

Simply Spending the Saturday: Denim Trip

It has been ages since my last shopping session. So today, the last free weekend before my testweek, I finally went shopping again. And since I was feeling edgy I decided to be a dare-devil and I bought my first new pair of blue jeans, since I was twelve. I hate them I hate them I hate them. I'm still not quite sure what made me change my mind but anyway: I'm going for a whole new style so I bought my self a pair of slim-fit dark-washed jeans.

Blue Yellow Red Rietveld

Yesterday we had a little field-trip with our art-class. It's just a small group of eight students, so  that's not to big and it was very fun. We went to see the Rietveld-schröder house, in Utrecht.

Fitting in while standing out!

Today I was simply so much fun! Nude-painting for the first time in my life, meeting other creative people and of course the amazing city centre of Amsterdam.
